Sometimes, I just sit and ask questions about the way christians live, our preference and pursuit then relate it with our relationship with God and how it should be.
And while thinking about it, I can't help but see the lapses in our Christian walk, the frivolities we chase, how we wile away time and ignore that which matters most in life.
It is utmost foolishness to prioritize what matters less and neglect what actually matters most.
I thought of these questions I'm about revealing as I interrogated myself and decided to ask you these questions as well. They aren't asked for you to give direct answers but to self examine yourself and discover what should be priotized in your life.
So, while I ask these questions, check if they resonate with you and pinpoint where you aren't getting it right as to make necessary amendments according to your analysis and discovery.
I believe you reading this article is a believer or even a born again Christian. And as one who believes in Jesus, pray to Him, study His word, attend services and may engage in other Christian activities, still find yourself divided and given to unrighteous cause, unholy engagements, wrong choices, coarse discussions with the heathen, and so on. This is never meant to be.
You are probably paying attention to worldly trends, and on-vogue activities which you know doesn't glorify God and edify your spirit man. You want to impress people (especially the carnal minded), by putting up with them to feel 'among'.
Now, check yourself with these questions...
You honor people you hold in high esteem like your family, your uncle/aunt that has money, your sponsor, mentor or father. What if you honour God as much as you honour those set of people you respect?
You're always on a quest to impress your friends, family, peers, church brethren, colleagues, spec, spouse...
What if you try to impress God as much as you do to these people?
What if you love God the way you love your family, spouse or even your favorite sports, movies, hobby and other things?
You wake very early everyday and sleep late at night because of your business, career, job or ambition in a bid to acquire more money. What if that degree of determination is also evident in your service of God?
What if you love God and the things of God the way you love pleasure? Does He even have a chunk of time you give to social media and personal gain?
You love gisting with your friend(s), sister, mother, colleague. You even go to them whenever you have an issue. That's good but what if you communicate with God as much?
To many of us, our level of communication to God and our time we give Him haven't reached the degree to which we relate with people.
It's as if God takes peanut while we give more to people and things we love.
(If you're certain you've exceeded the norm we see today amongst christians, congratulations, you have a strong relationship with God).
You know, most times, our complaints about the failure in our relationship with God is as a result of the more time, resources, thoughts, we give to people and things undeserving of our time instead of our Creator.
Now, we have more time for family, business, work, career, ambitions but limited time for God. Tell me, why won't our relationship suffer? Why won't we complain of habitual sins and why won't our service to God be deficient?
If sixty percent of everything about us is allocated to God instead of people, worldly/personal pursuits and gains, our relationship with God will blossom.
By that, He uses us more, and we become more dear to Him. This was the secret of David.
Even as king with all his responsibilities, He praised God seven times a day and prayed three times daily. And as if that wasn't enough, David said, according to scripture, "when can I go and meet with God" (always craving God's presence and seeking to please Him) (Psalms 42:1,2). Now, why won't he be considered a man after God's own heart?
What about Job? Always looking out for the atonement of him and his children (seeking to please God). And what happened? God boasted with Job even before the devil. (Job1:8)
Child of God, can you be called a man, woman, boy or girl after God's own heart?
Can God trust us enough to boast about us, to give us an assignment, a generation? Can He lay on our shoulders a government like Jesus?
Or are we just playing church?
This isn't child's play but God's heart beat. Even amongst many of His children present in the earth, He's still looking for those He can trust.
Let's get ourselves aligned by giving our all and greater percentage of our time and unbreakable focus because God and His purposes matters most than your earthly accomplishments, and selfish gain.
And by doing so, can we actually make a mark on earth.
If you've never made peace with Jesus who matters most than every other person or thing, this is the right time to do so. Surrender to Him and live your life pleasing Him.
God bless you.
