A highly successful person in terms of wealth making, acquisition of possessions with lots of connections and affluence can still be a total failure.
Let me rephrase that...
You can have so much money and still be a failure though a success to men. Money is not a determinant factor of true success, not even the level of mastery in your field of endeavor can put the "true success" tag on you.
So many people in our modern-capitalism world today terms success to be wealth because they feel money can get them every luxury they desire.
That's the reason people are going crazy for money (doing anything just to have it) and forfeiting what should actually be chased which will in turn attract the money they go crazy for.
And it is more disheartening to witness how this has tainted even the mindset of christians when in actual, we are the ones that should teach the world what true success is all about.
I'm not trying to connote that money isn't part of success but I'm establishing the fact that money is one of the least things to quantify a truly successful person.
Without further ado, let's define true success.
In the words of Dr. Myles Munroe, true success is completion of your purpose in life. It is not measured by what you've done compared to others but what you've done compared to what you're supposed to do ( ie God's purpose for you).
Read that again.
My point is, true success is calculated from the standpoint of what you were created for—God's purposes.
You may be doing so well in your career, business, pursuit in life, you may even be at the top of your game and highly celebrated by people, but if you aren't in alignment with God's purpose and will for you, then you aren't a success.
Another grave mistake that's rampant amongst humans is, using other people's achievements as a yardstick for measuring their level of success.
Just because you see a man making lots of profits in the business industry or making waves in ministry or has gained dominance in a particular field doesn't mean that should be the standard for measuring yours. Everybody's path aren't just the same. The individuals you may be competing with or envying might be missing it.
When you use people's achievements as a measuring tool, it becomes competition not a purpose driven life.
Those on the path of purpose are only after living their lives to the fullest and glorifying their Creator irrespective of what others are doing.
SO HOW CAN YOU ACQUIRE TRUE SUCCESS?
Observe the standard
Every successful corporate body or system has a module of operation or principles that guides them. It is also applicable in acquiring true success in life.
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way PROSOEROUS and have GOOD SUCCESS. (Joshua 1:8)
According to the above scripture, speaking and thinking the Word always makes the Word part of you. And by so doing, you automatically make it your standard for living—consciously and subconsciously—thence, prosperity and success follows you unavoidably.
God told Joshua to read, speak and meditate the Word because all principles and keys for successful living, in whatever sphere of life, are in the Word. It is your compliance to it that births the result. God's word is the standard not man's rules, beliefs, experience, etc.
Dwell in your original environment
Man's original environment— where he's meant to prosper— is God.
If you take the fish out of water, it dies. If you take a tree out of the soil, it withers. In similitude to that, if man is no longer in God, he dies.
If you want to succeed, never leave God because you die the moment you do. Jesus says, "...for without me you can do nothing". (John 15:5b).
Adam and Eve started dying after they left the garden. King Saul started dying after the spirit of God left Him. What about Samson?
Cherish the presence of God in your life. He is the propelling force that enforces your prosperity and guides your path onward to success.
Purpose discovery
Ignorance of this key factor is the reason many cut corners and do lots of detestable things, even to sell their souls to the devil just to acquire riches and fame.
The definition I gave earlier on true success is the completion of purpose. So how can you embark on what you don't even know, not to talk of completing it?
You may be thriving in an engagement but deep within you, you know you're missing out on something. That's purpose crying out to you. You have to respond if you really want true success.
Men may hail you with lots of accolades and approval but you can still be a failure in eyes of the One who created you.
You're are only a success in God's eyes when you live by His own purpose for you. Be attentive to it.
Ask yourself, "Why am I frustrated by what I'm presently doing? is God pleased with what I'm pursuing? Am I fullfilled? Does it bring me peace and satisfaction?"
Keep measuring up yourself but not with a person's achievements but God's intended plan. You might not have a full glimpse of all of God's plan but stick to the one He has shown you. This is why you should never disconnect yourself from God. The connection brings in more clarity.
I'm currently writing a book on purpose discovery and what you must do to live purposefully. It will guide you on how to discover purpose and stay on the purpose path. Watch out for it.
Only in Jesus will you find true success (here and beyond). Surrender your life to Him to enjoy these benefits if you haven't.
God bless you.
