7 PRACTICAL STEPS TO OVERCOMING PORNOGRAPHY ADDICTION

Multitude of Individuals especially young people have been trapped in the dungeon of porn addiction. Unfortunately, it has led many into diverse acts of sexual sins like: masturbation, premarital sex, rape, lesbianism, homosexuality, adultery, etc. They indulge in these sinful acts to satisfy the insatiable lust for pleasure which the use of pornography (which leads to such act) is unable to provide them.

Thousands, however has engaged in this and many amongst these victims seek a way out of it probably because of their knowledge or experience of the great harm it has caused them or their desire to be freed from it. Whichever reason it may be, every victim of this addiction should ensure he/she deviates from it because truly, the consequences of pornography indulgence is numerous and disastrous.

Nevertheless, if you're a victim and you seek freedom from it, there's help for you. In this article, you'll be given 7 practical steps to overcoming porn addiction. If you're determined enough to cease from it, these practical steps well applied will grant you total freedom from it in little or no time.

Here are the steps, follow them keenly;

1. First make a firm decision to seize from pornography. Decide and be willing and ready to stop watching it and engaging in its cousins of fornication, masturbation, rape, adultery, lesbianism and other sexual sins.

A young man called Daniel in the book of Daniel chapter 1 was taken to a foreign country where idols were worshipped and their foods dedicated to it. But Daniel PURPOSED in his heart never to have even a bite because he knew that that would defile him as an Israelite (God's people). He had every chance to get a taste of it; besides it was the king's order to feed him and his peers with the king's meal. Imagine how attractive and sumptuous it looked yet he refused. A firm decision.

That decision made him overlook the pleasure and enjoyment he would have derived from the defiled meal. He maintained his purity and so can you. You just have to decide and be willing to stand by your decision.

2. Eliminate everything that contains and connects you to erotic sights. Get rid of all movies, videos, magazines, pictures, hard drives, books or novels that promotes it. Go to your social media platforms and sites to unfollow groups and friends that feed you with all that trash. Everything should be totally cleared. You can visit a phone technician to flash your phone in other to avoid leaving any stone unturned.

For a more faster and effective change, I advice you abandon your personal smartphone entirely and get a phone that has no access to the internet for the mean time. I know you might be wondering how possible that may be considering the usefulness of your smartphone but dear, you're doing yourself good by doing that.

3. Never visit anything related to or promoting pornography again. This is a fight you must win and to be victorious against it, you have to totally stay away from anything that gives a boost to it. Even if it means staying away from friends in same boat with you.

I forgot to mention in the second point that your playlist too shouldn't have an audio or music that talks about sex. Yes! Music inclusive. Your mind is a receptor and it accommodates any content that passes through your eyes and ears, therefore be careful of what passes through them.
And please, don't near Sodom. Doing so will frustrate your efforts. "It doesn't matter" or "I can stand its appearance" is a lie from the devil. Don't be deceived; evil communication corrupts good manners, says God's Word.

4. Feed on pure and edifying contents. Feed yourself on right contents as you're eliminating the old ones. Understand that you don't get rid of bad habits, you replace them. If you don't feed on right materials, the old ones will keep hunting you. (See Matthew 12: 43–45).

God's Word is the ultimate and most crucial content for consumption. It doesn't just hold your deliverance, it renews your mind. God's Word lies your transformation. Transformation is evident when your mind is renewed. (John 8:32, Romans 12:2). Mind what you feed your mind with. It only needs right books, articles, good and Christian music etc.

5. Find an accountability partner. Some one you can tell about your addiction unashamedly and one who is willing to monitor and help you in your struggles. Someone you run to whenever the urge emanates. Someone who understands you. Ensure this person is matured and wise enough to give right counsels and even prayers. He/she should not be in same addiction problem with you.

In this fight, you'll need another party involved. You can't do it alone. So, approach someone that models the pure life, someone you trust and have such person help you. Don't conceal it. There are many out there and around you who seek individuals like you they can help. Identify and approach him/her, then pour out your heart. Never be ashamed to do so. Remember, a problem shared is half solved.

6. Be purity conscious and practice it daily. Do this to have purity inculcated in you.
Make it part of you. Love it. Fuel the passion to lead a pure life. It is hundred percent possible. Develop the habit of talking about it to anyone possible and be intentional to lead that lifestyle both in the secret and in the open.

Don't neglect the Word of God while pursuing purity. It holds the guide and strength you need. "How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your Word." (Psalms 119: 9).

7. Involve JESUS. Every step we've given above will be effortless without this particular one. Ensure you give Him your life and entire trio being (spirit, soul and body). He holds the main part of your deliverance after all. Yes, you may have sinned against Him in the past but He is more than willing to forgive you. You may think He has condemned or judged you but He hasn't. He is actually awaiting your return to Him with open arms. So, never let self guilt and condemnation cause you to run away from Jesus. Don't let the accuser (Satan) deceive you into thinking that you are worthless and a nobody because of your weaknesses. You are very important to God. Very!

Therefore, "...go boldly to the throne of grace that you may obtain MERCY and FIND GRACE to HELP IN TIME OF NEED" (Hebrews 4:16).

Now, I want you to drop your phone or whatever device you're reading this article with and make mercy prayers unto the Lord. Ask for forgiveness of your past indulgence in pornography or any sexual sin and seek His grace to overcome it using the above scripture — Hebrews 4:16 — and John 1: 9.
Finally, rely on the Holy Spirit; the Spirit of Christ. He was sent as your helper.

An additional action you should take is to solidify all these steps in this article by serving God continually without compromise. You're now new in Christ, so the old shouldn't be found anywhere near you. Get engaged with Christ, you know why? That's because your life will be beautiful and secured with Him.

God's will for you is PURITY.

God bless you.

MY DEADLY FRIEND

I had this friend I never knew was a foe till I understood its deadly traits.   The worst part?? I feed it myself unknowingly. Imagine feeding what kills you slowly. No, it's not an external being or thing but comes from within.  And no, it's not personal to me but a generic problem amongst millions of people out there. Comparison! Yes, comparison! It shows itself through three different forms :  Emotions , c ommunication   and   Identity . You would agree with me that these forms can also be components that constitute friendship. This is to elaborate how comparison poses as a friend while stating its significant harm. THE EMOTIONS INVOLVED  Some people think of comparison as a tool for growth. I mean, if other people's success and progress can keep you awake and thinking all the time, then you would want to do better. That's what you think, right?  Comparison would surely give you a lot of motivational lines like: "If my friend can do this, i can do i...

MY LITTLE THOUGHTS!!!

I read something that kept me in thoughts for some time now and I saw a new light in it. "Therefore i say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat and what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on..." (Matthew 6:25) These are the questions i asked myself after reading it: • "Is the above scripture saying i should not bother about my life or ensure i make something out of my life?" • "Does it mean i should just allow life happen to me and accept whatever it brings to my table (my life)"? I thought it that way because that verse is literally saying,  "you know what, just relax. God got you. You don't have to work or stress yourself. He'll take care of you as He does to the birds of the air and lilies of the field. (Vs 26 & 28)." But same Bible says we should work. The word of God critically downplays laziness and idleness. "For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: T...

NOT JUST THE REGULAR CHRISTIAN

"I'm a very good Christian...a born again Christian at that." "I'm not just a regular Christian because I always go to church and partake in Christian activities." ...and you think that's enough reason to tag you a Christian beyond the ordinary? Please, before thinking you don't fall under the category of a regular Christian, I'd love you to read this article to the end with understanding. In many nations of the world, especially my resident country, Nigeria, many families and individuals acknowledge and believes in Christ which makes them Christians in a literal sense. It may be because it's a "religion" passed down as a family heritage or an influence from family members.  It may be because of christain social influences and networks. It can be exposure to christianity through education or basically for selfish motives (what they can benefit from God). Not all Christians are TRULY Christians in its true context. We ind...
