It's quite unfortunate that valentine's day has lots of mishaps and unpleasant things happen among young people.
Many have already made plans for that day. But more often that not, many have regretted the decisions they've made on valentine's day. That's what I want to correct in this article.
Because it's valentine's day, a lady will give her body to the guy in her life as a reward for all he's done for her or show of love for him.
Because it's valentine's day, some use their bodies for fun and unholy pleasures just to enjoy themselves.
And they say they're celebrating love. Hmmm!
I really want to ask, do you really understand the significance of the valentine's day?
Valentine's day is a holiday instituted because of a saint called Valentine who was martyred for converting pagans to Christianity.
Now, if you study closely the story of which valentine's day originated from, you'll see that valentine's day shouldn't be spent for ourselves (because it is clear that many celebrate love in a very selfish way).
Valentine's day should be a time you extend love to those around you because the significance of valentine was about a man who died for the purpose of the Kingdom of God and love for God and souls.
But now I see that valentine's day is celebrated selfishly, else why would people mess up themselves and others on that day.
Research shows that businesses like chocolates, flowers, jewelries, perfume industries, etc make lots of money in this season. They take advantage of the valentine seasons to promote their businesses with adverts that puts young minds into pressure of getting boyfriends or girlfriends just to satisfy their desires. That's how they make their money.
A time that should be used to extend love...I mean genuine, God's kind of love to others, people especially young folks are busy looking for a boyfriend or girlfriend to be with them on that day. Nobody wants to be left out in terms of getting chocolates, flowers, vacations and other benefits.
That's a very selfish motive.
Sadly, young people wants to exploit their bodies on valentine's day. Many young girls and boys loose their virginity on that day because their friends and even the society paints it as how it's meant to be. Unnecessary pressure everywhere because it's valentine season.
That's nonsense!
I'm writing this with both grief and compassion for those that has decided to follow the norms of the society because it's 'valentine's day'.
Just one careless decision you make can mar your life as long as you live.
So why not calm down and turn that negative decision to a positive one?
Why not plan to be a blessing to someone on that day?
Why not be selfless even if it's just for that day?
It's a celebration of love. You don't have to sell your precious body as a reward system for someone who has been helping you. As a man, you don't have to put yourself under pressure and doing things that pricks your conscience just to get money to satisfy your supposed 'girlfriend.'
You don't even need a girlfriend or boyfriend to feel complete for valentine's day. Have you ever known the feeling of putting a smile of someone's face by the love you show to them? Don't you understand the feeling of joy gotten from gifting someone?
You can do that! Just channel your energy to carrying out a deed that will bring you joy and positive fulfillment. This alone can complete you.
You don't need to celebrate valentine like the world does. You can take a wise decision. I took a spiritual-sense decision after reading this article of ovcss.com called THIS VALENTINE (you can read up here).
If valentine's day is truly the day of love and you're thinking of only yourself and giving a thought of succumbing to the pressure of having a supposed partner, then stop. You really need to read what love is in 1 Corinthians 13.
There's a song I've been hearing all over social media that pisses me off.
"Valentine is coming, where is your boyfriend, you are sitting at home, lonely. You are so lonely, you have no body..."
This is arrant nonsense!
Must you get flowers and chocolate? Must you look for a woman to chill out and have sex with at the end of the day? Must it be about you?
If you get nothing on that day, why not you look for who to give and show genuine love.
Incase you don't know what genuine love is, 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 explains it.
[4] Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
[5] It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
[6] Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
[7] It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
[8] Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."
It is never written there that love is buying gifts for ulterior motives. Love has nothing to do with lust and selfishness. "...it is not self-seeking..."
Please, love yourself first by thinking of your future and the implications your valentine plans may have on it. Secondly, extend the love of Christ to others. Stop thinking who will take you out or who wouldn't on valentine's day.
Saint Valentine gave up his life for the purpose and love for God and Christianity. It was no selfish act. Why not we do same in the 'little' way we can?
I may sound harsh in today's article but that's how I feel and I'll love many out there to see my thoughts and understand it.
Dear ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Jesus loves you. Everything about you is important to Him and that includes your body. It is VERY precious. Please treat it as such. Your body is meant to house the Holy Spirit hence it should be undefiled.
Stop abusing your body by giving it to different men or women in the name of valentine's day or your lustful desires at any time. Your body not a toy or sex machine.
And please, no matter the pressure, don't give in to what's being released in the air this season. As a single, don't be pressured to get a partner because you want to recieve gifts or feel like others.
Just be an extension of the love of Christ to someone. You can spend that day witnessing Christ to someone, giving gifts and doing good deeds for others. Don't be part of those that allows the mishaps of valentine's day victimize them.
This is my advice to you.
I really pray you understand what I'm trying to communicate to you.
